Virtual Homeschool Summit Helping Parents

Virtual Homeschool Summit Helping Parents

Homeschool summit

It is hard to that we are about a month away from back to school for children here in the Midwest. This has been a peculiar year for so many of us, yet time keeps marching on. The upcoming Virtual Homeschool Summit is so helpful for many parents. These parents are navigating the confusing and stressful decision about whether to send their children back to public school. In many communities, the school boards and public officials are still making decisions. They are deciding if it is safe to offer classes in person or if they should continue to offer on-line instruction as they did at the end of the most recent academic year. My heart goes out to the administrators, teachers, and parents who are all trying to find the best answer to this question.

2020 has been a never-ending challenge. In other ways, though, we have experienced a time in which we can pivot and come up with new ideas and new ways of doing things. July 31, 2020 through August 2, 2020, I am extremely honored and excited to be part of an event called the Virtual Homeschool and Unschool Summit.

This three-day event will help parents learn to navigate homeschooling and unschooling without getting overwhelmed. It will help them decide if they want to try something new and pivot in their approach to their child’s education. Parents will learn the differences between homeschooling, unschooling, and the virtual learning that many students did last school year. They will learn about resources that are available, network with other parents with similar questions and interests.

Parents who attend this summit will also learn from an impressive panel of expert speakers. Presenters include Sami Bell, founder of SURE Parenting, Heidi Rasmussen Totten, creator of The Homeschool System, Tricia Dunn, founder of Sun Raise Academy, and Nicole Young, Expert Homeschool Support Community Advocate. Grandma’s Magic Pillows is proud to be a Gold Sponsor for this event.

Grandma’s Magic Pillows and a Traditional School Environment

Grandma’s Magic Pillows have been used as part of a traditional school environment by several different teachers.  Each child has their own pillow, and they take daily breaks with the pillows. This time is beneficial so that the children can rest their minds and relax. School is a very intense experience for many children, even at the elementary level. There are a lot of things to remember, and distractions coming from all directions from fellow classmates and technology.

Children in the classrooms where teachers have integrated Grandma’s Magic Pillows into their day now look forward to this time. They yearn for the outlet that the magic pillows provide, so that they can simply be quiet and still. We tend to think that children are wanting to always be moving, on the go, and full of energy. In actuality, when given the chance to slow down and reset their minds, they are grateful for the chance to just breathe and be calm.

In addition to helping children during the regular school day, we have heard amazing stories of children whose parents helped them create an after-school routine with the magic pillows. When they come home from school, they have a snack, and then use their magic pillows to decompress from the school day and bus ride home.  It is a great transition before jumping into homework or heading out to play with their friends. Just like the children who use their magic pillows in the classroom, the kids who use them as an after-school routine cherish this time to unwind and decompress.

Because of the success that we have had in a traditional school environment, I am excited to be part of this event.  I look forward to sharing how Grandma’s Magic Pillows can be an integral part of homeschooling and unschooling. While homeschooling is sometimes viewed as an easier option compared to traditional school, that is not true. Making any sort of change to your day-to-day life can be stressful, even when it is a change that you view as being positive.

Homeschooling provides more flexibility for parents and students, but children must still concentrate, learn new concepts, remember information, write essays, and take tests. There is an adjustment period as families learn which schedule and teaching methods work best for them. Additionally, parents must adjust to taking on the role of both parent and educator, which can be different and stressful for everyone involved.

Homeschool parents can implement Grandma’s Magic Pillows into their daily schedules the same way that traditional teachers have done. You can take this time together, parent and child, or give your child some time alone with his or her magic pillow. You can actually use these magic pillows multiple times a day, to give a break between lessons, or as you transition from your school time to a different activity.
